American Cancer Society's 2006 Relay For Life Antioch High School’s Track & Field WHAT: Relay For Life is an exciting annual fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Teams of 12 -15 members are formed from company’s, schools, clubs, families and other organizations to walk, run or roll (wheel chairs) in relay fashion for 24 hours around the track of a local school. The event is filled with live music, activities, contests, education and much more! This is the 7th Annual Relay For Life event in Antioch/Pittsburg. The event is organized and produced entirely by local volunteers on behalf of East Contra Costa County for the American Cancer Society. The fundraising goal for this year is $325,000. WHY: By supporting Relay For Life, people help fund programs right in their own community and give hope to cancer patients. Proceeds raised from this event will be used for cancer research, education and patient services in the East Bay. CEREMONIES: The Relay For Life opens as cancer survivors walk, run or wheelchair the first lap. Cancer survivors from all over the community are encouraged to join us in a celebration of their victory. This is an emotional time and sets the stage for the importance of each participant’s contribution. The Luminary Ceremony is another highlight of the event. The ceremony is held after dark to honor cancer survivors and to remember those who have lost their battle against cancer. These luminaries line the track and are left burning throughout the night to remind participants of the incredible importance of their contribution. WHEN: The event begins at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 24th and the fun progresses non-stop for 24 hours, concluding on Sunday, June 25th at 10:00 am. A participant from each team is required to be on the track at all times. WHERE: Antioch High School’s track/football field, 700 West 18th Street, Antioch HOW: There is a $150 team entry fee ($100 if paid BEFORE May 31st) and each team member is asked to help raise a minimum of $100 in donations. Many incentive prizes are available for individuals who raise the most money and each participant who raises $100 will receive an event t-shirt. Please join us in the fight against cancer by becoming a participant in the Relay For Life. The whole community is welcome to come and participate in the Relay For Life activities throughout the 24-hour event.
